Discussion Forum

The San Mateo Mothers Club has an active online community through Big Tent, which is our online resource for group calendar, email forum, classifieds, and more.

Members are automatically enrolled in the General Discussion Forum.  Forums exist for sub groups/sub clubs also.  Preferences can be maintained under the Forums tab.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the virtual community coordinator.

SMMC Discussion Forum Guidelines
The following guidelines shall govern the use of the Discussion Forum by the members of the San Mateo Mothers Club:

1) The subject matter does not need to be strictly limited to issues concerning parenting and pregnancy. Instead, members should look at the email list as a resource connecting similarly situated individuals and families in the greater San Mateo area.

2) The sales and advertising of a club member's personal used baby equipment, child or household related items are permitted and encouraged.

3) Request for individual or business references is allowed and encouraged. Members responding to these requests should reply to the message and realize that their response will be viewed by all members of the Discussion Forum.

4) When responding to a request for information that is not likely to interest the group as a whole (e.g. a request for a certain magazine article, video, etc.), please respond to the group member directly. This means members should not use the reply button in this instance.

5) When responding to another member’s request for information or references, keep your comments objective and constructive.

6) The sales and advertising of a club member’s personal business is permitted, but please limit these types of postings to once per month, as a courtesy to other members of the group.

7) The following types of emails are strictly prohibited:

a) Jokes, unless they are truly parenting-related
b) Chain emails
c) Spam - repeated copies of the same message or incessant irrelevant posts.
d) Political comments, political opinions or links to electoral sites
e) Religious comments or any theological beliefs

8) Members should refrain from any personal attacks or use of profanity but should conduct themselves with courtesy and respect.

9) Club related activities or business is welcomed.

10) Any files must be sent to the virtual community coordinator for posting to the Folder section in Big Tent.

The membership of any member failing to adhere to the guidelines will be subject to moderation. The Virtual Community Coordinator will issue a written reminder to anyone who does not adhere to these guidelines. The Board reserves the right to moderate an individual violating these guidelines.  Continuing to fail to adhere to the guidelines can result in a hold on the membership.

Please remember: The opinions expressed by members of the Discussion Forum are those of the individual member and do not represent the opinions of the San Mateo Mothers Club.
